_______________________________________________________ Complaint and/or Compliment of “News Content
The Complaint of News Content is about making two phone calls. Complaining directly to the news source AND the advertiser when an obviously biased, incomplete, or false story has been broadcast. The intent of the call is to tell the station and the advertiser that you will not be patronizing the advertiser because of that news story.
We sincerely hope that there are many occasions to compliment the news content !. Please use the same idea as listed below for compliments
The News Source
Whether it be radio or television, always ask for the station manager.
For newspapers, ask for the editor.
Something simple like, “The reason for my call is to express my dissatisfaction of your news story, concerning______X_____.
State the reason you are dissatisfied ________Y________
Obvious bias,
Incomplete
False reporting
Bad journalism
State that …..“I will not be patronizing (____sponser_Z)____because they are connected with the news story in that same time slot,” (or by the placement of the ad in newspaper, whatever) You can also say…. “As a long time listener of (X years), I will not be tuning in to your news anymore. Based on this story, it makes me question the content of ALL of your news”
Ask the station manager “ Will you be making a correction to thestory” Remain silent. (the next voice should be theirs)......it’s important that you wait for their response.
State that “I will be talking about this to all my coworkers, friends and business associates and urge them to reconsider their news source”.
End the call by, ‘Thank you for listening to my concerns”
The Advertiser
State the purpose of your call. “I am calling to complain about your company advertising on __radio station x or television station y, or newspaper z._________because of an incorrect news story.” I would like to speak with the owner ………(You can also just ask directly for the owner, or the person who handles your advertising. They may ask for the purpose of your call. If so, go back to the purpose of your call.)
After getting person on the line, a simple opening like, “The reason for my call is to express my dissatisfaction of your company advertising on __radio station x or television station y, or newspaper z concerning an incorrect news story
State the reason you are dissatisfied ________Y________
Obvious bias,
Incomplete
False reporting
Bad journalism
Whatever the case may be
State that “ “I will not be patronizing your company because you are advertise withradio station x or television station y, or newspaper z”
Here, it would be appropriate to say . “I have been a long time customer and I am reconsidering you as a shopping choice (whatever that might be :buying your next Ford, or appliance, whatever). “ I will also be telling all my coworkers, friends and business associates of your connection with radio station x or television station y, or newspaper z”” …………..Remain silent and wait for a response……………..
Thank them for their time in listening to you.
